Ah, I remember that sweet, motherly teacher - and how oppressive the grandparents were, although with age I understand them a bit more.

BTW, the other kids are in for some surprise if they think the MC is a major wimp here :D

Genki's suffering is real. Having to stay with those awful grandparents without being able to do what he likes is torture. He doesn't have a place to be himself. I wish Shark was with him still and be with the teacher together! :'(

The grandparents are not "awful", just over-protective, which is what a lot of single-child couples do nowadays; if you add that they see boxing as a "plebeian" and foreign/non-traditional sport and that they feel they lost their only daughter because of that, it makes sense, but they are not bad people.

I used to find them terrible as well as a kid, but now I am reconsidering them.

Plus they will redeem somehow, just wait.
